A month after the body of 85-year-old father, Dhirajlal Desai, was found at the detached home, murder squad detectives launched an investigation and treated the death as suspicious.
A post-mortem examination failed to determine a cause of death.
However, the CPS gave a different account and said the two women were not prepared to support a prosecution “for personal reasons” and that without their evidence there was no “realistic prospect of conviction”. Manz was put before an internal panel including two senior officers from within his own unit which upheld the complaint that he had carried out two serious sex assaults while off duty.
The company director, who used to own Vaughan James Chemist in Farnham, was initially bailed until October 2015 but was re-bailed a number of times.
Prosecutor John Law told magistrates: ‘Just to clarify, the deceased is a male, Mr Desai’s father, Dhirajlal Desai, so yes, the case needs to sent down for a Plea and Trial Prepation hearing date in the crown court.’ Kishoree Kotecha-Pau, defending, made no submissions to the court.
Despite senior officers finding Manz had “committed serious sexual assault on two females whilst off duty”, the Force continues to refuse to publicly name him.
Manz, who now lives near Farnham, Surrey, was arrested on January 29 last year after an investigation by Sapphire Command, the Met’s specialist rape and sexual violence unit.
